Brodsky House is an iconic building of the last decade in Moscow

Brodsky residential building, which is located in Khamovniki, has been included in the list of 33 landmark buildings in Moscow built over the last 10 years. Modern architectural masterpieces are represented at the exhibition “Moscow. The Real”, which takes place at The Shchusev State Museum of Architecture until September 4th 2022.

As part of the exposition, you can find such objects as the GES-2 House of Culture, the Museum of Russian Impressionism, Zaryadye Park, Luzhniki Stadium and many others. The projects selected for the exhibition reflect trends of the modern Russian architecture and record the changes that have taken place in the capital over the past decade. The organizers are Committee for Architecture and Urban Planning of Moscow (Moskomarkhitektura) and the Government of Moscow. Elizaveta Likhacheva, director of the Shchusev State Museum of Architecture, curates the project.

Elizaveta Likhacheva: “A very important process is taking place in Moscow today. We see that architecture becomes more important than construction. The name of the architect comes to the fore and his personal responsibility for the project increases significantly. Faceless buildings disappear; developers have an understanding that the name of the architect is an essential part of the project marketing strategy. At the exhibition, we talk about modern architecture through photography. In fact, we talk about art through art. I expect the exhibition to be popular, because photography is contemporary painting.”

At the opening, the chief architect of Moscow Sergey Kuznetsov, who is the author of the idea of the exhibition, explained why the project summarizes his ten-year work and explained the importance of popularizing modern architecture: “We have collected 33 projects and the exhibition itself is the 34th one. Now the city includes a new cultural layer, a completely new architecture, but it dissolves into a huge metropolis. The exhibition is the quintessence of what is going on in the city. Our main goal is to make the work of architects visible. The authors must receive recognition, and this recognition will further motivate them to create conceptual projects, a modern cultural layer.”

The architectural bureau Tsimailo Lyashenko and Partners together with a French architectural bureau Antonini Darmon have developed the architectural concept of the Brodsky, which is reminiscent of the multi-level arches of the Roman Colosseum and Venetian palazzo. The drawing of the facade is a combination of 3 types of arches of different widths and heights. From the side of the embankment, the facade looks solemn, from the side of the courtyard - calmer. The windows of the living rooms, which are the largest arches, look at the embankment, while the bedroom windows overlook the courtyard.

The architectural project of the house has become a finalist of the international World Architecture Festival (WAF) in the Residential - Future Project section. The World Architecture Festival award is one of the most prestigious awards in the field of architecture and design. More than 500 projects from all over the world take part in it every year.
